Lesson 5: 6 Most Important Drinks You Can Have on Your Weight Loss Journey Plus 5 You Should Avoid at All Cost

Drinking these liquids can makes the journey easy

So, in the last 5 lessons, we have been discussing how to eat your meals to burn fat.

Today, I will be teaching you exactly what you should be drinking on your weight loss journey.

Now, before we get into the details of this lesson, let's first discuss what you should avoid drinking that could actually hinder your weight loss journey.

In fact, what you should avoid drinking if your goal is weight loss can be summarized in two words: liquid calories.

What are liquid calories?

Liquid calories, as the name suggests, are calories that come from drinks. They are often referred to as "empty calories" because they do not provide much nutritional value.

An example of a liquid calorie is your morning beverage (milk, Milo, and sugar or honey.)

Here is why these liquid calories are bad for you:

Remember what I taught you about bad carbs? I explained how they quickly raise blood sugar levels.

Liquid calories are even worse for blood sugar levels because they are in liquid form and contain no fiber at all.

So, they do not have to be broken down by the digestive system as much.

This means that they go straight to your bloodstream and raise it up instantly. And if you are already insulin resistant, your blood sugar will remain high for a long time before normalizing. And while it is high, your body is storing every food you are eating as fat.

This is really bad because liquid calories do not provide the same level of satiety as solid calories.

This means that we may not feel as full after drinking a sugary drink as we would after eating a piece of fruit.

As a result, we usually pair this liquid calorie with another food just to feel satisfied for a while.

For example, most people usually take sodas like Coke, Fanta, etc. with meat pies, cakes, buns, etc.

This is a really terrible combination for weight loss because your body goes on to store that food you paired with the liquid calorie as fat since your blood sugar is high and it sends a message to your body to enter into fat storage mode.

In fact, another problem that arises when we consistently consume liquid calories over time is insulin resistance. And I explained what happens when you become insulin resistant in Lesson 1.

So, I suggest you try as much as possible to avoid every form of liquid calories. And if you must consume them, it should be less frequent. Maybe on some special occasion like your birthday.

Here are some forms of liquid calories to stay away from:

  • Soda. Soda is one of the worst offenders when it comes to liquid calories. A can of regular soda contains about 150 calories and 40 grams of sugar. To understand better, a can of regular Coke contains 140 calories and 39 gram of sugar which is the same as 10 cubes of sugar.
  • Juice. Fruit juice is often seen as a healthy beverage, but it can be just as high in calories and sugar as soda. A glass of orange juice contains about 110 calories and 22 grams of sugar.
  • Energy drinks. Energy drinks are packed with sugar and caffeine, which can lead to weight gain and other health problems. A can of energy drink contains about 160 calories and 50 grams of sugar.
  • Sports drinks. Sports drinks are designed to replace electrolytes lost through sweating, but they are often high in calories and sugar. So, unless you are an athletic person running a marathon, stay away from sports drinks.  A bottle of sports drink contains about 100 calories and 30 grams of sugar.
  • Alcohol. Alcohol is high in calories and can contribute to weight gain. A 12-ounce beer contains about 150 calories. Apart from its calorie content, another problem that arises is that when you drink alcohol, your body will prefer to use it for energy over fat. This means that the food you eat while drinking alcohol or even after drinking alcohol is more likely to be stored as body fat instead of being burned for energy until the alcohol leaves your body.

What you should be drinking on your weight loss journey

Now that you have learned some drinks to avoid in your weight loss journey, the next question is, what should someone looking to lose weight be drinking?

Honestly, it’s a no-brainer.

What you drink alone will not help you lose weight.

If you’re spending your money on some Chinese slimming teas and expensive supplements, please stop.

You have been deceived and lied to with all their marketing gimmicks.

If those teas worked, why do people spend millions on surgery when they can buy teas for a lesser amount?

Hear the truth…

Slimming teas do not burn fat. In fact, if I go on to explain how this slimming teas work, you will discover that you are actually harming your organs by taking them.

It is important to note that taking these drinks I will be mentioning below will not guarantee weight loss. You still need to eat a healthy diet and move your body in order to see results.

Some best drinks you can have on your weight loss journey include:

  • Plain water: Water is essential for good health and can also help with weight loss. It helps to keep you feeling full and can help to boost your metabolism. Aim to drink 8 glasses of water per day.
  • Green tea: green tea is rich in antioxidants and catechins, which have been shown to boost metabolism and help with weight loss. You can drink green tea plain or add a squeeze of lemon or lime for flavor.
  • Black coffee: Black coffee is another good choice for weight loss. It is high in caffeine, which can help to boost metabolism and suppress appetite.
  • Sparkling water: Sparkling water is a refreshing and hydrating drink that is a good alternative to sugary sodas and other sugary drinks. It is also a good source of electrolytes, which are minerals that help to regulate body functions such as hydration and blood pressure.
  • Fruit-infused water: Fruit-infused water is a healthy and refreshing way to hydrate. Simply add your favorite fruits to a pitcher of water and let it sit in the refrigerator for a few hours.
  • Herbal tea: Herbal teas such as chamomile, ginger, and peppermint can help to boost your metabolism and promote weight loss.

Again, it is important to note that drinking these drinks alone will not lead to weight loss. However, drinking these drinks can be a helpful addition to your weight loss plan.

To summarize...

These liquids should be your go to liquids if you are looking to lose weight. When you have achieved your weight loss goal, you can drink others once in a while.

In the next lesson, I will be sharing the exact step-by-step framework you can follow and start seeing results in your weight loss journey.

It is a straightforward and simple instruction you can implement immediately after taking the lesson and start seeing results.

I will be sharing all that and more in the next lesson.

See you in the next one.
