3 Major Mistakes Every Woman Over 30 Must Avoid to Successfully Lose Weight and Achieve a Healthy Lifestyle While Still Enjoying Your Favorite Nigerian Foods

Carbohydrate foods are not the enemy once you know how to eat them right!

The Shocking Truth About Carbohydrates and Weight Loss

For most people looking to lose weight, bread, rice, and pasta are often demonized as enemies on their weight loss journey. They believe eating them will derail their progress and lead to weight gain.

But what if we told you that carbs can actually be your friend?

It's definitely possible to lose weight while still enjoying carbs. The key lies in understanding the three carbohydrate mistakes that sabotage weight loss and how to avoid them.

In this short report, I'll break down which types of carbohydrates are weight-loss friendly and which ones to limit. We'll also cover portion control and reveal the worst type of carb to avoid for optimal weight loss progress.

By the end, we'll debunk all the myths holding you back from enjoying carbohydrates on your weight loss journey. You'll discover how to eat carbs for sustainable weight loss!

If you're ready to explore, let's get started...

One of the most common ways we consume carbohydrates that leads to weight gain is through the consumption of refined carbohydrates.

Let me explain...

All carbohydrates are not equal. In fact, we have whole food and refined carbohydrates.

Whole food carbs, also called complex carbohydrates, are those that are high in fibre and take longer for the body to break down and absorb.

Refined carbohydrates are those that are low in fibre and are quickly broken down and absorbed by the body.

Now, here's what happens to your body when you eat these refined carbs...

Imagine this: you wakeup one morning with a huge craving for donut and soft drink. You go for it and immediately feel energized and ready to tackle the day.

But within an hour, that energy crashes, replaced by fatigue and a nagging hunger.

What's going on? The culprit is the refined carbohydrates you just had for breakfast.

These refined carbs lack fiber, causing a blood sugar spike. Your body releases insulin to clear the sugar, but the sudden drop leaves you feeling drained and hungry again soon after.

This cycle of sugar highs and crashes leads to overeating and weight gain.

But the story doesn't end there...

All this sugar rollercoaster isn't just about feeling tired. Over time, something much worse happens... insulin resistance.

Let me break it down for you.

Your body is made up of tiny factories called cells. These cells need sugar (glucose) for energy. Insulin acts as the key, unlocking the doors and letting glucose in.

When you constantly eat refined carbs, the sugar spikes overwhelm your cells.

What now happens is that when you eat refined carbs, the insulin the cells produce to clear the sugar from your blood doesn't work thereby leaving them stuck outside.

Your body tries to solve this by producing more insulin, so it can get the sugar into your cells. This can work for a while, but eventually, your insulin becomes less effective.

The consequence of this is that excess sugar starts getting stored as fat leading to weight gain. it also increases your risk for serious health problems like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, fatty liver disease, and even some cancers.

So, not all carbohydrates are bad. It's actually those that are refined and processed that lead to rapid weight gain when eaten consistently over time.

Therefore, eating mostly whole food carbohydrates can actually help you lose weight but while you're eating them, don't make the second mistake which I will be discussing next.

Eating healthy but the scale refuses to move? Here's a surprising reason why your efforts is getting sabotaged...

Another mistake most people make which makes losing weight difficult, is overeating a certain type of whole food carbohydrate called  starchy carbohydrates.

I will explain this to you so you can understand why this is a big problem...

You see, there are two main types of whole food carbohydrates: Starchy whole food carbohydrates and non-starchy whole food carbohydrates.

While non-starchy carbohydrates are not easily overeaten as they are mostly fibre and they don't lead to weight gain, the same does not apply to starchy carbs.

When we overeat starchy foods, even whole food carbohydrates like yam, brown rice, plantain etc, you become overweight overtime.

Here is why...

When we eat starchy foods, our body breaks down the carbohydrates into glucose, which is then used as fuel for energy.

However, if we eat too many starchy foods or consume them in large portions, our body may not use up all the glucose as energy, and the excess glucose is stored in the body as fat. Over time this fat accumulates and leads to overweight and obesity.

It's as simple as that.

Here are the three most important tips to keep in mind while eating starchy carbs while trying to lose weight:

  • When consuming starchy carbs, pair them with a source of lean protein and non-starchy vegetables. This creates a balanced meal that provides sustained energy, keeps you feeling satisfied, and helps manage blood sugar spikes. I will show you exactly how to do this shortly.
  • Do not eat them everyday.
  • Even whole food, starchy carbs contain calories. Be mindful of portion sizes to avoid exceeding your daily calorie needs.

Another reason you are not losing weight while eating carbs is because you are drinking your calories

Liquid calories refers to any form in which you drink calories including sugary drinks such as soda, fruit juices, energy drinks, sweetened coffee and teas, beverages, tigernut milk drink, pap, alcohol, malt drink etc.

Calories represent the amount of energy your body can get from consuming food or beverage.

The list is endless and many people are drinking them and complaining of not seeing results in their weight loss journey.

The problem with liquid calories is that most of them, including fruit juices, don't have fibre.

Whenever you are eating any food that contains carbohydrates, it is very important you include fibre for two reasons:

  • Fibre helps to regulate blood sugar levels..

Now, because liquid calories don't have any form of fibre, it shoots your blood sugar levels up without control and your insulin levels increase as well which is very bad for weight loss.

  •  Fibre promotes feelings of fullness.

When you are done eating a food that contains fibre, you stay full for a longer period of time.

However, because liquid calories don't have fibre, it makes it easy to consume a significant amount of calories without realising it.

In fact, it is worse when you drink it in the morning because for the rest of the day, you will be craving for something sweet.

So, if your goal is weight loss, avoid drinking anything that has a significant amount of calories.

Stick to drinking plain water, sparkling water or fruit-infused water.

In summary, carbohydrates are not the enemy. You just need to avoid making the mistakes explained and you will start getting results on your weight loss journey.
